Critical Minded

In case you missed the byline, allow me to repeat: fuck New York, fuck the south, fuck the west coast. Fuck you all very much, from the bottom of my heart. If you’re from the mid-west, non NYC east coast or any other region not included in my cuss outs and immediately thought ‘man this dude is sleeping/dissing/hating on (insert area code here),’ then fuck you too! No other regions are included because at this point they don’t deserve the expletives slung at them. But just follow the example being set here, and you won’t be far behind.

More than any other time in hip-hop history, regions outside of NYC are getting major shine. In turn, NY heads are hating harder than ever and the other areas are getting touchier and more defensive. So since the whining and petulance stems from the mecca, lets with why they get the middle.

NYC is the mother, the mecca, the heart of hip-hop. It always has been, it always will be. Any respectable top 50 album G.O.A.T. list is gonna have like 75% NYC-based albums. It just is what it is. Things done changed though, the stranglehold is getting ever looser and it may be some time before it tightens again. The kings have faded, died, retired and they haven’t been replaced. Instead, the superstars are coming from Chicago, Compton, Atlanta and Houston. The city isn’t setting the trends now, they’re following them. They’re relying on stars from other cities to help them sell albums and create a buzz. It’s getting a bit scary and the always snobbish fans are noticing and becoming worse as a result. For many, anything below the Mason-Dixon is being cast as utter trash unworthy of inclusion in this here genre. They’ve certainly got a point when it comes to refuse-on-wax made by D4L, Dem Frannchise Boyz and the like, but there are way too many dope artists that have no business being anything but praised. But think about it, shitty music from another region is always much worse than shitty music from your own region. You have less reason to like it and you just don’t ‘get it’ as easily. It’s understandable, but this blind hatred towards anyone stealing some shine isn’t warranted. Its making y’all seem small, jealous, threatened, and well…like whiny, little fucking bitches. So fuck you.

Now on to the dirty, dirty. One too many successful artists have been bred from the southern states lately. It’s upsetting the big boys, its stealing their thunder, and a lot of your shit just sounds funny. Outkast and Scarface should have been enough to represent the south, this is getting ridiculous; Ludacris, TI, Paul Wall, Nelly, Ying Yang Twins, UGK, Chamillionaire, The Clipse, Slim Thug, Mike Jones, Lil’ Flip. Too many artists are moving units and getting airplay, and people (NYC in particular) are really starting to hate. Please note the sarcasm being used. But yeah, people really are hating and as I noted, there is definitely some blind generalization going on. So what does that mean? Anyone who doesn’t like something made in a southern state is a hater? That’s what folks in the South will have you believe. You think Laffy Taffy is one of the worst songs (and I use the term “song” loosely) in the history of civilization? No, it’s just how they do. You’re just a hater who doesn’t understand southern culture. Hell no motherfucker! I’ve got ears! Y’all make some of the worst music I’ve ever heard and create some of the worst trends I’ve ever seen. I got a lotta love for a lot of music coming from down there, but just cause some folks blindly hate doesn’t mean you have carte blanche to make rancid music and just cast off any critical ear as a hater. Shitty music is shitty music. I could give a fuck about your area code. Y’all are way too fucking sensitive and unwilling to admit some of your peers are making songs that should be relegated to soundtracks to taking out the garbage. So fuck you. Continued on page 2 »
