They say that everything is bigger in Texas. That statement couldn’t be anymore truer when you look at the physique of 19-year-old, Keagan Givens. The student-slash-video vixen has appeared in videos that feature Texas alumni. Her sun-bronzed skin can be found standing next to Mike Jones, T.I., UGK, Juvenile, and others.

Upon first look, you’d think that Ms. Keagan would be stuck on herself because people tell her how good she looks. But with a heart as big as the state she resides in, Ms. Keagan sits down with HHDX to discuss a few things that was on her mind.

The sinful vixen talks about her experiences on set, how she feels about her states place in hip-hop, and why sex will ultimately sell anywhere you go.

HHDX: You’re heavily known in Houston and have graced a lot of the videos. What was the first video that you did?

KG: The very first video that I did was “Sittin’ Sideways” feat. Paul Wall. I was nervous during the shooting. I may not have been seen in that video a lot, but I was featured a lot in Mike Jones "Flossin" video. It was a refreshingly new experience for me. I had never been in that type of environment before. It was really different, but since then, I have been in Front, Back by T.I. and The Way I Be Leanin’ by Juvenile. Along with being able to appear in all of these videos, I would have to say that the best experience was meeting all the different people on the set. There were girls everywhere and there was a cool vibe that was always present on all of the sets that I’ve been on.

HHDX: As the spotlight shines on the South, it seems like the focus is more prevalent in Atlanta and Miami. Do you think that the artists in Houston aren’t keeping their name in the mouths of the Hip-Hop game?

KG: No, I think that we’re still getting a lot of recognition within hip-hop. You have to take a look at what’s going on in the game, right now. You even have Ludacris using our stuff. That song with him and Young Jeezy, Grew Up A Screw Up -- that’s a big song, too. Paul Wall, Mike Jones, Slim Thug and the like are doing a lot for us in Houston and Texas as a whole.

HHDX: What made you want to get into doing music videos and not doing anything else?

KG
: To me, it’s a kind of form of acting. In the videos that I appear in, I’m not just dancing by the rapper with the nice car and the iciest chain. Besides, it’s not just that I’m just doing videos, I am enrolled in school and I work for an engineering company. Doing music videos isn’t just my main focus and I obviously have a lot more to offer than just a big butt and a smile.

HHDX: What, in the end, is your ultimate goal for your career and how do you think that you can get there when most industry execs look down at those who’ve been featured in Hip-Hop videos?

KG
: As far as my ultimate goal is concerned… I haven’t decided on one just yet. I don’t really think that the industry looks down on the video girls, but they really frown upon the ones who expose themselves. I know, for sure, that I want to branch out to do more acting. I have been in the Source [magazine] and I will be appearing in Swagger and Black Men’s magazine. They may be just ads, but it’s a continuation, growing on where I’d like to be in the next few years.

HHDX: …And that is?

KG: In movies, on television, doing what I put my mind and my heart to doing.

HHDX: Nowadays, the youth is moving at a faster pace than anyone had expected. The youth seems to be engaging in more adult content. Politicians and concerned parents blame the images portrayed in rap videos. Seemingly a part of a damaging culture, how does that make you feel?

KG
: I don’t really think that it’s the rap videos. It’s the way that they’re being raised. Of course, they’re not going to put the blame on themselves. I don’t expose myself in any negative way. I have a younger sister and I really don’t try to carry myself in that light. My parents are big inspirations to us. And personally, I would let my sister get involved in the business. She has the look and is more so the model type. She’s very smart, too, so this is not the only option for her. She can do whatever she wants to in this world.

HHDX: Why do you think that sex is still the main selling point in Hip-Hop?

KG
: The same reason why Playboy is the top selling magazine with men across the globe. You have to look at it like this… sex is everywhere. When you see the bangin’ chick in the videos… that is what you’re going to talk about. You’re not going to be focused on how smart she is, or even what color her eyes are. The body, the physical is all that men (and some women) try to check out when these videos come on television.

HHDX: Playing devil’s advocate – why do you think that women choose to be apart of the selling of sex in Hip-Hop? Especially since they seem to be at the low-end of the common denominator?

KG
: I think that it’s wrong that people would look down on the women. But every model has the opportunity to pick and choose what role that they want to do. I think that everyone has their own different reasons to get into it. I always want to control how much access people have to me.

HHDX: The age doesn’t seem to fit your body type. Growing up, were all the boys trying to play ‘hide ‘n go-get-it’ with you?

KG: I was an inside girl. I didn’t go outside. So, the answer to that is… no. Guys didn’t try to play that mess with me. [laughs]

HHDX: I guess since you’ve been doing music videos now… do directors and other industry types try to play the same game with you?

KG
: No, I’ve never been put in that situation. I definitely try to stay out of those scenarios. Nothing good can come out of that.

HHDX: For a Pisces, you seem quite shy – what does a man have to do to get the other side come out of you?

KG
: I have to trust them before they get the whole package. [laughs]

HHDX: Okay, flirtation aside… What is next up for you?

KG: I am working on some more magazines and trying to appear in a few more videos. Honestly, that’s about it. I don’t want to say it and it not comes true. So, for HHDX, y’all are just going to have to wait and see.
