They say that youth is wasted on the young. With BET running rampant and kids getting a healthy dosage of their 50 Cent cereal. One who is taking her youthful exuberance to the next level is Crystal Monique. The 20-year-old California Valley Girl linked up with former Beauty & Brain interviewee – Adeja Allen.

The happy-go-lucky Aquarius is a proud member of Adeja’s Bella Capos modeling group. She’s taken her carefree, yet focused attitude and has appeared on MTV’s Wild ‘N Out. Beauty & Brains is proud to talk to Ms. Crystal Monique as she speaks on the Bella Capos, how much loot her sex would be worth and why her boyfriend doesn’t want to see her in Show Magazine.

B&B: We featured Adeja Allen in this section a while back. How did you link up with her to be a part of the Bella Capos?
CM: We met at Wild ‘N Out. We were featured extras there. I think we were sitting next to each other and we were always at every other episode and we just got cool from there.

B&B: Featured extras?! What did you guys have to do?

CM:
All we had to do was be at the Wild ‘N Out taping. Sometimes we’d get paid to sit next to an artist or featured guest, too. But we would get paid to sit there and watch the show. It was only like, maybe, $50 a night, but still…

B&B: I’d sit there every day for $50 to watch the show [laughs]. What do you like most about being a Bella Capo?
CM: I like that the girls are down to Earth. I’ve been to a few photo shoots and you cannot believe how many stuck up girls I’ve met. But with the Capos, we’re so goofy. If you really talk to them, they’re all like, “Hey, girl!” When we did our first photo shoot, everyone was down to Earth. So, really, they’re just a beautiful group of women!

B&B: It seems like women there – people in general – all want to be successful and will go through any means to get to it. Has anyone ever been cutthroat towards you in order to make their dreams come true?

CM:
Actually, no. That’s never happened to me, surprisingly, thank God. I’ve talked to some girls who have encountered other’s who have tried to make them look bad on purpose. Usually at auditions, it’s like that, but I’ve never seen it in person.

B&B: If you could live anywhere else – where would it be and why?

CM:
Miami. I know everyone would want to go to Brazil or Paris, but for me, right now, Miami. I love the beach and the weather. I think that that’s Crystal. You can walk around half-naked and not be stared at awkwardly. Out here, they’ll look at you kind of funnily, but in Miami – it’s just normal.

B&B: If sex was money – how much would you be worth?
CM:
…Wow [laughs]! A lot [laughs]! Every time I have had relations or I’ve been intimate with a guy, they all of a sudden – after we broke up – wanted to be my boyfriend. I’d say that I’m priceless. There you go! I’m priceless. There isn’t enough money in this world.

B&B: Now, you’re in a company with a bunch of women all working towards similar goals. How do you all get along without pulling out weaves?
CM:
Some of the girls don’t have weaves [laughs]! I don’t know. We never had any problems with one another. We’re trying to help ourselves and one another. We give each other compliments and refer photographers to one another. We give advice and we’re very positive people. Adeja did a great job about putting these people together. She first said that it was a cool bunch of girls; we’re all about uplifting each other and helping one another achieve our goals.

B&B: You have to have a pretty strong helpmate to ride with you in the modeling business. How does your boyfriend help you with your career?
CM:
My boyfriend – he supports me – I love that about him. He just doesn’t want me to do anything too crazy out there. I love him and respect him not to do anything like that. How can I explain it? There are certain modeling things that he doesn’t feel comfortable with. Like implied nude or things like that – he doesn’t feel comfortable. It just so happens that I really wanted to be in Show Magazine and he was being shown the magazine in the barber shop and he was almost about to throw up on himself, because he knew I had wanted to be in that. He said that if I was to be in that magazine with my ass showing out, doing provocative clothing – he’d be really depressed. He loves me and he’d be there for me regardless.

B&B: Does modeling seem more of an easier profession to break into than going for a degree and working a nine-to-five?

CM: Hmm… that’s a really good question. I’m working a 9-to-5 and I’m trying to break into modeling. You know what? Working a job is kind of the same – you can lie on a resume. You can say that you worked all over and whatnot. If you’re trying to get into a magazine, you will say everything – I don’t do that. But you do what you can to get in there. If you’re an outgoing person, it’s easier for you to break into modeling. It’s really about who you know, it’s all about that. If you have a big butt, then you’re in there with the modeling game! Thank God for photo shop [laughs]! Some of these girls wouldn’t be in the game without it.

B&B: I know you have a man, but for those single fellas out there – what are the five things that every man should have on point when out and about and trying to check out the ladies?
CM:
Teeth. I always look at teeth. Your personality always has to be on point. I loved that since I was little. The guy who has a great sense of humor is always a key. I can always spot a poser from a while away. Everyone is trying to be dorky or trendy and have this whole aura about themselves that isn’t really them. They’re trying to be cool and odd; they want to be like Skateboard P. I thought that everyone was trying to be white nowadays. Like what’s going on nowadays?! Everyone needs to just stop trying to be a rock star and be themselves! When I was in high school, everyone was wearing Vans, but now they’re cool.

B&B: You’re a thoroughbred 80’s baby – what do you like about that era of music versus today’s songs?
CM: Hmm… I think that everyone was talking about real stuff back them. Everything now is about, “Be fly or die.” You see, back then, no one wasn’t really worried about their clothes all like that. That is a really good question, Kevin. The difference between the music is that they’re not talking about bitches and ho’s and “I got a circus on my neck and a jungle on my wrist.” When you heard Prince talk in his music, you believed it. There was a complimentary nature to it. It was somewhat sensual and respectful. Now, they talk too much shit about girls and it’s not cool. If you hear a new artist, they’re not going to try to do anything different. They’re going to stick with what’s popular now.

B&B: Why do you think that pretty boys are in the closet?

CM:
[Laughs] That’s just my funny little theory. I just have never been attracted to pretty boys. I would end up with them, one time I was with one and he just seemed like he was kind of soft. He would say some things that made me think a certain way. Some guys will wear lip gloss and use my compact to check to see if their face is alright. I don’t know [laughs]. It’s just little things that pretty boys do that I’m not attracted to. My mom – she loves How Stella Got Her Groove Back – and any man like that she thinks they’re gay.

B&B: If you could make any move in your career, right now – what would it be and how would you make that become a reality?

CM: I’m trying to make moves now. Let me know where that photographer is and I’ll be there right quick! I’ll grab some bikini shorts right now! I really want to be on the cover of KING Magazine and I like doing them. I would love to be in a movie, but I’m never really focused on that. I’m not going to limit myself to urban, but I can’t do high fashion because I have hips and a butt. I think a big move for me would to be in ads. Just to be in a magazine would be hot, but I would love to do something big within the urban fashion ads. I don’t want to be the girl who shows her ass on TV or in magazine, I want more than that and I deserve that. So, these moves that I’m trying to make will be great!
