When I put “R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece” into my computer and let it play as I transcribed interviews I found that my head had developed a slight “bob” as I started “feeling” the groove of one of Hip Hop’s most well-known artists…the D-O double Gee…and the G is for Gansta.
The first single off tha album “Drop It Like It’s Hot” with Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes (the album’s co-executive producers) has received mad play on radio and the video has been on every screen since it’s debut. AND that commercial for the album with ol’ girl droppin’ that thang…wheeew! But, here I go turning myself on and digressing. The song is a helluva follow up to the hugely successful “Beautiful”collab between Snoop and Pharrell.
The album plays out like a pimp handling his bizness and deals with everything from money, honeys to hangers-on while staying above the drama and displaying the ever evolving talent that is Mr. Calvin Broadus…after all that Snoop has been through from the initial drama with Death Row, his ship jump to No Limit to his present day hotness…this album does more than continue the definition of a man who’s name is a household word…it cements him in his talent for verse.

With the release of his 9th album, “R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece”, Snoop Dogg made his goals clear when he subtitled the album “The Masterpiece.” From the intro, “I Love to Give You Light”, to the end track, “No Thang on Me” that he collab’d with funk legend Bootsy Collins.
With cuts like “Can I Get a Flicc Witchu” and, with the help of Lil Jon and Trina, Snoop puts the haters in check with “Step Yo Game Up”. Other collabs featured on the album include 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, Nelly, Soopafly and Charlie Wilson of the Gap Band.
