first of all i wanna give a shoutout to everyone who took the time out to read my 'psychobabble'. i truly appreciate the exchange of ideas. the comments always have me rolling......LOL (yea thats a shoutout to you my dude)
im gonna keep it short today. on April fools 2008...i woke up, turned on the radio and thought the music playing was a joke....but then i realized it wasnt alll a dreeeammmm. im never gonna read word up! magazine, or see Salt N Pepa & Heavy D up in no limousine.....too old to hang pictures on my wall. every Saturday HOUSE/DANCE attack, no more Mr Magic, Marley Marl.
but in defense of ringtone rap....i was bangin my head to Lil Wayne ft. Corey Gunz - A Millie (not the snippet) [click to listen here] because that beat is quite hiptnotic and i started paying attention to what Mr. Wayne was saying...and Weezy said...
"....im gone take a nap mayne, its nap time/ill holla back at you at snack time"
its nap time folks. and for snacks...hot cheetos and oj from my sippy cup.
and is it just April fools or did Corey Gunz black out and renegade the greatest rapper alive on his own shit?...must be April 1st.

Back in the hey day, we had 'rappers' rappin for fun. On the corner as a past time. DJ'ing, b-boy'ing, graffitti...all that. they had fun. they weren't lookin for get rich quick schemes. they didn't care about ringtone sales or billboard charts. they were just putting out music that spoke the message of the streets (ie. Public Enemy, NWA etc.). Their main purpose was to teach and educate.
you wanna know what "REAL hip-hop" is? REAL hip-hop is Eric B. And Rakim - Paid In Full. Real hip-hop is Run DMC, A Tribe Called Quest and Big Daddy Kane. Real hip-hop is Big L, 2pac and Biggie. Nas, Immortal Technique...etc.
So what is "Real Hip-Hop" now? Now its beef. Its going back to jail for the 3rd time. Its getting shot the fuck up and using it as a means to market your next album. In 2008, hip-hop is rappers going to jail and getting married. Its instigating conflict between rappers and releasing full mixtapes dissing certain rappers or groups. Its getting signed off SINGLE deals (not album deals). Hip-hop nowadays requires a story behind the story they decide to tell in their music before the lead single drops. Its using the same hook guy in every single on the radio. Its gimmicks and sherades. Its controversy and catching bitch feelings. Its making the most money as possible, investing the least you can. Who the fuck is checking for real talent anyway?? Who wants to hear REAL topics?
Oh that's right......yall kids just want 'feel good' music. You want to dance all the time because your so ADD. You want to forget about real problems, just relax and bump something that feels good. You want to make up the next dance, have your 15 seconds of fame then go out like Mims did. You want to sing like Sean Kingston.....fuck talking about some measly genocide in Sudan. Fuck tryna have good wordplay or substance. Fuck speaking about real shit we all go thru. Were all too busy running away from it to care about it anyway, but that's def gonna make things better. Matter of fact, why dont we all shoot heroin thru our veins to 'escape reality and feel good'.
How long did it take to write all these radio hits anyways? All it takes is a demo version of Fruity Loops, a decent mic....and your a rapper nowadays. Make up a story about how you live on the block, and got shot 80 times while trying to save a baby crossing the street and a bus is coming at the baby all while you're a fugitive and just escaped from jail......and you'll gain instant success. I guess talent counts for nothing anymore (shouts to The Roots for using real instruments). Even Changes by 2pac was a classic track that got mad radio play and had more than enough substance in 1 verse than every billboard single out now. Let me make a song about hot cheetos with lemon and go platinum. I got the hook down already.
Yahhhh bitcchhh yahhhhhhhhh.
ps. check out Stimuli's "March On Washington" mixtape. you want some substance. he spits it.
pss. maybe its just April Fools, and ill wake up in the morning to hear good music on the radio.
