American Gangster ReMixtape Winner, Feb Contest and Playlist!

What up folks, it’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for…or at least some of you…the announcement of who won the American Gangster ReMixtape Contest. After some 130 submissions, 10 finalists and our staff locked up in small rooms with headphones, we’ve finally got our winner by the narrowest of decisions: Remot’s American Gangster Remixes! Big congrats to him and thanks once again to all those who took part. Be on the lookout for Remot’s excellent remixes to a corner and internet near you!

As for our other remix contest, which was put on hold for January due to the AG contest. We’ve got 11 songs for the mixtape and here are the next 4 up for grabs.

Nas – Surviving The Times
Akrobatik – Put Ya Stamp On It f. Talib Kweli
Scarface – Never
Akrobatik – Be Prepared f. Little Brother

The deadline is February 17th at midnight EST. If you don’t label your track as follows, your submissions will not be accepted. Example: Nas – Surviving The Times (HHDX Remix).

DOWNLOAD TRACKS HERE.

Lastly, it is Wednesday, so here is your random playlist of the week. This time, a selection of posse cuts (randomly selected of course). Enjoy.

American Gangster ReMixtapes are out of control!

When I decided to run this American Gangster ReMixtape Contest a month ago I expected to get about 30 submissions or so. Producers had less than a month - December no less - to re-create an entire album from Jay's freshly released vocals.

I had 10 albums with 3 days.

30 plus albums in 2 weeks.

With the deadline of December 31st I received over 75 more albums over the 29th, 30th and 31st.

All in all, I ended up with over 120 submissions of full, remixed American Gangsters!!! From what I've listened to there is a lot of really great stuff here. Plenty of creative concepts and flat out great production. It will take at least another week before the final 5 remixtapes are featured and voted on, given that we have so many to get through.

Just wanted to give an update, thanks again for participating guys.

Remix Contest Winners & Track For Round 2

Hey folks, it's time for round 2 of our ongoing Remix Contest. Once again, thanks to all who have participated. The response has far exceeded our expectations. Before moving on, here are the winners from round 1 whose tracks will appear on the eventual HipHopDX ReMixtape.

To remind you, the voting came from myself (Jeff "J-23" Ryce), our audio guru Joel "Shake" Zela and from the readers from last weeks poll.

50 Cent - Ayo Technology - SageTrois

Birdman - Poppin' Bottles - Rockwell

Gucci Mane - Freaky Gurl - Feno Encino

Outlawz - Drivin' Down The Freeway - PeTe

Q-Tip - Work It Out - Dela

R.Kelly - Rockstar - Embassy

Stat Quo - Grits - Remot

Congrats to all you gentlemen. It will be Embassy's Rockstar remix that will be on our myspace page for two weeks as well.

Moving forward, MAKE SURE TO NAME YOUR TRACKS! It is not easy keeping track of 60 plus songs as it is, nevermind when 30 of them are named "track 1." This is how you should name files before sending.

Artist X - Song Y (Z Remix)

There are your new a cappella's. We've got tracks from Styles P, Papoose, 50 Cent and Talib Kweli f. UGK. The deadline is December 18th and all submissions can be made to music@hiphopdx.com. Refrain from using all caps in your subject line or email as it will likely end up going to junk mail.

Looking forward to round 2!

HipHopDX.com Remix Contest

If you’re a producer trying to get on and wondering when 50 Cent is gonna stumble across your myspace page and use one of your beats, HipHopDX can help. It’s the HipHopDX Remix Contest kids, your chance to get some serious shine.

Here is how it works: We provide you with selected acappellas, you download them (see links below), you remix them, and you submit them (to music@hiphopdx.com). You can remix all of them, some of them, or one of them. That is up to you.

What we do is select the best for our bi-monthly remix mixtape that will distributed for free download to hundreds of thousands of people across the net and to A&R’s and major label reps. We will also take the best of the best and let the readers decide who brought the hottest remix and the winner will be HipHopDX’s myspace song for two weeks.

We will be supplying new acappella’s every month so keep checking in!

This weeks tracks:
50 Cent – Ayo Technology (f. Justin Timberlake)
Birdman – Pop Bottles (f. Lil Wayne)
Gucci Mane – Freaky Girl Remix (f. Ludacris)
Outlawz – Driving Down the Freeway (f. Young Buck)
Q-Tip – Work It Out
R. Kelly – Rock Star (f. Ludacris & Kid Rock)
Stat Quo – G.R.I.T.S.
