It's still a random selection, just from a single year; 1990. Back when A Tribe Called Quest were rookies, LL Cool J already wasnt' calling it a comeback and no one was cranking any Soulja Boy. Shit, was that kid even born yet?

A New Playlist & A Remix Contest Update

What up folks, its a multi purpose blog today. Wednesdays are all about multi-tasking. First and foremost, for those of you waiting patiently, or impatiently, to get an update on December's remix contest...here it is. You all lose.

I'm playing, but because of the overwhelming American Gangster Remix Contest I had to fall back on this one. Which wasn't hard because I got very few submissions this month, again, blame Hov's acappellas. So because I only got one of maybe 2 remixes for each song, I just picked the best since there wasn't much for people to vote on. So December's winners to be included on our ReMixtape are:

Styles P - Blow My Mind (Remot Remix)
Papoose - Fitted Hat Low (Rockwell Remix)
Talib Kweli - Country Cousins (N-Jin Remix)
50 Cent - Still Will (Moje Productions Remix)

Random Wednesday Playlists

Wednesday is a pretty good day, its not Monday and it's close to Friday. So from now until the end of time we're going to put together a playlist of 10 random tracks for you listening pleasure on hump day. A theme may sneak in every now and then, but for the most part the always reliable shuffle songs function on my iPod will determine our Random Wednesday Playlist.

American Gangster ReMixtapes are out of control!

When I decided to run this American Gangster ReMixtape Contest a month ago I expected to get about 30 submissions or so. Producers had less than a month - December no less - to re-create an entire album from Jay's freshly released vocals.

I had 10 albums with 3 days.

30 plus albums in 2 weeks.

With the deadline of December 31st I received over 75 more albums over the 29th, 30th and 31st.

All in all, I ended up with over 120 submissions of full, remixed American Gangsters!!! From what I've listened to there is a lot of really great stuff here. Plenty of creative concepts and flat out great production. It will take at least another week before the final 5 remixtapes are featured and voted on, given that we have so many to get through.

Just wanted to give an update, thanks again for participating guys.
