March Madness has been over for awhile...now it's time for some REAL basketball! Nothing against the NCAA tournament, I'm normally huge on it. This year...I just don't know. After seeing OJ Mayo and USC fall, it was pretty much done for me. Now, it's playoff time. What can you expect this year?
1. Kobe get's league MVP
Truthfully I wouldn't be too suprised if Kobe DIDN'T get MVP. The league has some odd grudge against Kobe. Yet and still, with all the BS techs, all the no calls, he's gotten the Laker's to the number one spot in the West. Nobody is as important to the any other team on BOTH ends of the floor. Yea, the NBA has given the MVP to players who don't play D the past 3 years, but hopefully they get it right this time.
2. Boston doesn't make it to the finals
Everybody picks the Celtics as this landslide NBA champion or Eastern Conference champion....it's not that easy. I don't care what stats say, you still have to play the game. Yea, they play good D, they also have the big 3, but who's a clutch playoff player on this team? When they absolutely need a bucket, who can be counted on based off past playoff experience? Sam Cassel? I don't know, I just really wouldn't be suprised if they get elimated, no matter how much I wanna see KG finally get a ring.
3. A whole bunch of trades=A whole lot of nothing
A lot of moves were made in the past year. Only two teams (The Lakers and Celtics) have seemed to benefit from their deals. I mean, I guess you could include the Hawks also, they have made the playoffs since the Bibby trade, but teams like Dallas, the Suns, and the Cavs all seem worse off. After the Pau Gasol trade alot of teams tried to make moves to improve, only to find themselves steadily dropping in the standings
4. The Rockets.....snore..
I know alot of people got super excited during the Rockets streak, but don't expect to much from them in the playoffs. T-Mac is not a superstar. I used to always go for T-Mac, hoping he does his thing. I never got why he couldn't pull it out in the playoffs....it couldn't be his fault could it? Yes, it is. During the streak, I watched as the Rockets played the Lakers late in the streak. T-Mac scored 11 points. WTF? Yea, they won, but that's just because Skip to My Lou played out of his mind, don't expect to much more of that. On the game the streak ended, T-Mac put up like 8 I beleive. Not only did he not ball, it looked as if he didn't want to. I seen the Celtics run traps on Rocket players, and T-mac would stand far away from the ball handler, not even attempting to come get the ball. He doesn't have the superstar get it done mentality.
5. Alot of muthafuckas is on the last stand, cuz shits gonna change.
Shit is gonna change next year. Most likely Gilbert Arenas won't be a Wizard. The Blazers are gonna be hella tough to beat adding Oden on the defensive end. After another lottery pick the T-wolves may find themselves being...dare I say it...competitive. The Hawks will improve even more. The Cavs better do something or Lebron will leave to NY when he can opt out or demand a trade prior to that. The Spurs are old as hell. Miami after tanking last season should be better with the addition of Beasley. Basically, shit is gonna change, it will be better for some (people in Portland) and worse for others.
