One of the things that frustrates me the most about this whole mp3 thing is that its turning cover art and liner notes into an afterthought. Shit to take it a step beyond hip hop has long since kinda just abandoned liner notes and only a few groups really put any thought/effort into them besides the shout outs.Hip Hop is a pretty young genre in general with regards to the music scene and its popularity and that is kinda scary when you think that nobody really cares to document it and the only ppl who can document it properly arent doing so because they are too busy either making it or making money off of it. Most of the straight from the horses mouth hip hop books are either controversial tell all exposes or self indulgent memoirs that only serve to big up the author.
That is why im so happy to have found this book right here:

This shit is amazing if you are a real live fan of music. It has backstory and facts from some classic albums man as a matter of fact here is the list of chapters....

each chapter goes into a brief history of the group which is pretty much like a behind the scenes look at how everybody met each other and what led to their record deal and then he lets the artist break the song down track by track. here is an excerpt* from the chapter on too short

the dopest part about reading this is that you can glean the artists demeanor from reading their words and if you follow hip hop and read/watch interviews you can damn near read it in the artists voices at times. or maybe i just got a crazy imagination but i swear to god while im readin these chapters i can almost hear the artist speaking.
at anyrate the book should be at all your major booksellers but if you wanna get your ecommerce on roll on over to
www.waxfacts.com for ordering information. its a really dope read.
*this excerpt was actually taken from his first book named 'rakim told me' which was the predecessor to 'check the technique. check the technique is an expanded version of rakim told me so all the chapters are included and a whole lot more are added.
