Digital 8 Ball Jackets

Once upon a time alot of the stuff you see people wearing was new and nobody ever thought it would make a come back, they just kinda bought it, took pictures in it and remembered it. Then the rerelease craze popped off and the stuff we had thougth we evolved from came right back to bite us in the ass. Take for instance the 8 Ball Jacket.

(whoever's myspace page that is, you are part of the reason why the internet is so freaking awesome)

The 8 Ball Jacket was a short lived fashion staple that if i remember correctly was around in the black community then got adopted by the mulleted masses. Okay let me digress and say this: 'the trailer park and the hood are the same thing' If you care to refute that statement we can shadowbox for days on how similar the differences are but im not here for that right now, maybe later.

Enter the Digital 8 Ball Jacket ...

I have been extensively visting and recently living in New York for some months now and these shits are everywhere up here, its almost superceeding the mural stitch leather jacket's popularity. I hope you know what jacket im talkin about when i say mural stitch cus i got a good feeling google will not know what the hell do do with that query but ill try..

*searches thru pages and pages of slightly related images*

Oh well I tried, but they usually have scenes from scarface all over em or money rolls or some shit and they only come in size XXXXL. You have seen them, you may have chosen to block them out of your mind but you have seen them. And since i cant find one i would like for somebody to get a photo of one so i can blog about it with the intensity that it deserves. Make a nigga bust a pose in that joint!

Now aside from me secretly wishing i had one of the OG 8 ball jackets back in the 90's, they were a hideous status symbol. The fashion statement OG 8 Ball jackets made back then roughly translates to what 'making it rain' says now. That statement is 'i dont know the value of a dollar becasue if i did id be doing something way cooler with my money'. Okay maybe thats a little harsh but its kinda true, trendchasers in general spend money on shit that they will only get up to a seasons worth of wears out of. Its not about being frugal its about looking classic. Why cop some shit you cant integrate into your wardrobe for years to come? Regardless when that first wave of OG 8 Ball jackets hit you knew the dude that had it on was either gettin money, had saved the shit outta his grass cutting guap, snow shoveling cake and allowance or was just plain spoiled.

These new digital 8's arent even status symbols, they are just ugly. Think about it, in a world where you gotta be cautious buyin jordans and you really dont gotta buy music at all unless you just want, to bootleg is the new standard. The laws of supply and demand are shot to hell, and everything is overly accessible which makes the Digital 8 worse than i thought. At least the Magic 8's had the 'IM RIIICH BEEYOOTCH' thing goin for it, the Digital joints just say 'i buy loud poorly constructed outerwear and love it!'  I can't wait for this god awful weather to break so that these jackets can be put back in the closet.

When will people understand that flashy aint fly it just says you tryin to hard? In the words of my good friend faye 'do better'.

This and any other blog i make is not a stab at the true counterculture fashonistas who are still actually making fashion statements by accident.  I still love you (c) 702 and Skateboard P no matter how much praise or shit vice magazine's do/don't section gives you. Its those johnny come lately hipsters and trend chasers.
