The Mirror Effect

After eating dinner with Rev. Al Sharpton at famed Harlem restaurant Sylvia's recently, Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly told his radio audience he "couldn't get over the fact" that there was no difference between the black-run Sylvia's and white-run restaurants.

"It was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun," he said. "And there wasn't any kind of craziness at all.... There wasn't one person in Sylvia's who was screaming, ' M.F.-er, I want more iced tea .'"

 
Someone called the radio station today to talk about these comments made by Bill O'Reilly regarding Sylvia's Restaurant.  I told the caller I didn't consider the statements to be racially motivated because I make similar statements myself!  I know a lot of you blog geeks don't go out much because your too busy being e-thugs and throwing grease on anyone who says anything remotely positive about  Lil Wayne.  (I feel like a white man walking into a mosque with a platter of pork asking the brothers and sisters if their hungry when I say Lil Wayne is nice when i'm on hiphopdx). But, for those that do go out, how many times have you said to yourself, I'm not going to that club.  Them nigguz don't know how to act in there!  Another example of this is if you're in a party where there are a bunch of our people and at the end of the night if there are no incidents, you may say, "Damn, I'm surprised no one got into a fight or got shot!  So what's the difference between comments like that and what Bill O' Reilly said?  I mean I'm not defending O' Reilly, just playing devil's advocate.  If I was a white person and I didn't hang around with blacks and all I had to go by were the images on VH1, BET, and MTV to go on, I wouldn't think We knew how to act either!  If you're mad at O'Reilly's comments then be equally mad at the uncivilized, no home training having, pants hanging off their ass, smoking weed in public, answering their cell phones in church, shitting on the floor on national TV, Negros who make the rest of us look bad and who make it possible for O'Reilly to make comments like that.  The title of one of BET's most coon-riffic shows sums it up, "We Got to do Better."  PEACE www.myspace.com/cthagod
