Well Ladies and Ghettomen it's two in the morning and I'm up denying anyone who doesn't have a profile pic on myspace and blogging on what has now become my favorite website www.hiphopdx.com. Today was a very prosperous day because I was able to sit and dialog with two of the most socially conscious rappers out right now, Mr. David Banner and Chamillionaire. I voiced my displeasure to both artists about the way they are coming at the Rev. Al Sharpton. Chamillionaire decided to make a mockery of Brother Sharpton in his new music video by creating a character called Al Sharpless and David Banner went so far as to direct Al Sharpton "to suck his dick”.
Chamillionaire's issue with Al Sharpton is the way that Al is policing hip hop. At the moment I can understand, but there is still no reason to disrespect the brother. David Banner is upset at Al for the same reason and he said Al should have came to the brothers in hip hop first before starting his attack on hip hop. That's a valid point also, but I let David know that his comments toward Brother Sharpton where totally out of line.
I mean think about it, whenever there is an injustice in Black America, Al Sharpton is on the front line and has been since 1986! Remember when Sharpton sought justice for the family of Amadou Diallo, an immigrant from Guinea, who was shot down by an officer of the NYPD. Sharpton proclaimed that Diallo's death was a result of police brutality and racial profiling and Diallo's family was awarded 3 million dollars in a wrongful death suit. This would have never happened without Brother Al stepping up. David Banner agreed that Al did come through on that, “but what was Al's cut of what the family received,” he questioned. David also proceeded to say everything Al does has and ulterior motive, mainly being money.
Well was money a factor in 2001 when Brother Al was jailed for 90 days for protesting near a US Navy bomb site in Puerto Rico? Was money a factor in 91 when Al was stabbed in the chest by Michael Riccardi while preparing to lead a protest thru Brooklyn? The police stood around and watched it happen and Brother Al's own people had to apprehend the “would be assassin.” Do you know after the incident Brother Al filed suit against the NYPD because they where there, but failed to protect him resulting in a settlement for two hundred grand? Of course they failed to protect him because they where hoping that he was going to meet the same fate that Malcolm, Martin, Denmark Vesey, and other great black leaders have faced, Death; death by a people who don't want our leaders speaking truth to power; death by a people who don’t want our leaders enlightening a race of people who damn sure need to be enlightened.
How can David Banner or Chamillionaire come at Al Sharpton when in reality I haven't seen a rapper display the political courage Al Sharpton has! As a matter of fact, yesterday, while David Banner and Chamillionaire where on "The Wendy Williams Experience" with me having this debate voicing their displeasure for Brother Al and promoting their CD's (Chamillionaire in stores now David Banner Nov 20th), Mr. Sharpton was in Jena, Louisiana on the frontlines once again trying to right yet another injustice that happened to 6 of our people. So how can two rappers who I dig and respect throw grease at a brother who is constantly and consistently there for our people when shit hits the fan?
I don't see anybody telling George W. Bush to suck their dick; I don't see George W. being made a mockery of in any rap videos, so why do we, as black people, choose to attack one of our finest black leaders? Until you get some civil rights stripes, lead some protests, get locked up for standing up for a cause, run for president, almost get killed because the powers that be fear the way you unite your brothers and sisters then I don't want to hear nothing....these are just my thoughts people, just the way I was feeling at the time. Peace until my next blog the militant midget Charlamagne Tha God
