She Can Control America's Buying Habits

No matter how hard I try to hide from the woman who the soccer moms of our country idolize, I can’t escape the wrath of Oprah. This woman is everywhere! And although this is slightly old news, it was brought to my mind again while I was flipping through the latest issue of TV Guide: ol’ girl endorsed Barack Obama!

Not only is this an important thing because Oprah is arguably the most powerful woman in America when it comes to influencing people’s opinions and habits (according to Forbes’ latest, she’s #21 on the 100 most powerful women in the world list), but this is the first time Oprah has ever endorsed a political candidate. Apparently she didn’t think too much about this because she made about as much sense in this interview as Miss Teen South Carolina (which, might I add, just never gets old).

Let’s break this less than 2 minute long disaster down right quick.

First off, King asks Winfrey if she’s ever endorsed a candidate before. Her response?

“Never.”

You’d think after making it so clear that this is a first for herself, that she’d have some absolutely amazing reason for holding out on endorsing political candidates up until now. I always figured Oprah would go for Hillary Clinton before she’d go for Obama – Clinton being a woman, and Oprah being a supporter of damn near every womanly issue that’s ever been brought up in our society. Apparently Larry King was wondering the same thing as I was. So what’s her reason for endorsement all of a sudden?

Wait for it.

“I know him personally.”

I sure as shit didn’t see that one coming! I know that the world of politics is filled with people who have endless connections with eachother and that a lot of these ties are what causes the corruption within the government…but you’re not supposed to admit it! Especially on a show like Larry King Live that so many people watch!  Come on Oprah, step your common sense game up! Right after she says that, she tries to catch herself by saying that she stands by his stance on the issues and all that politically correct bullshit you’re supposed to yap about when you endorse somebody on TV. Yeah, sorry, too late. And maybe she realized that, because she gave up again and said how she didn’t know any other candidates well enough to be able to say she believed in them. Word? So I’m not supposed to believe in a candidate just because I don’t know them? Well, then you might as well tell America not to vote on your next show, Oprah, because I don’t know too many people that know a lot of presidential candidates.

“Because I am for Barack, does not mean that I am against Hillary.”

Oh. Right. Suddenly it all falls in place. Well, the absolute nonsense of the whole thing, that is. Logically, you can’t support two people who are fighting against each other for the same thing. You just can’t! And obviously, you picked Barack because you felt he was at least slightly better than Hillary. Oh, wait, I forgot. It’s only because you know him personally. Great move, oh almighty influencer of middle America.

King: You just like Barack Obama?

Oprah: I just like Barack Obama.

………..you know, Oprah, he’s married. Give it up. Endorsing him isn’t going to make him like you back.

Then when asked if she had contributed money to his campaign rather than just her hype, she said no, and then goes onto say that her money isn’t gonna make any difference to him. Oprah! Maybe you don’t know him as personally as you think, because straight up, what minority that was a former crack user on top of that is going to ever say that money doesn’t make a difference to them!? Maybe money doesn’t make a difference to you, Oprah, since you got so damn much of it, and Barack’s probably pretty rich himself, but a presidential campaign requires a lot of funding. You better believe he wants your loot, Ms. Winfrey.

I’ve been pissed at Oprah on many an occasion, but I never saw her fuck up her own argument quite this badly. A part of me that believes that Oprah doesn’t give a shit about the male race wants to believe that she possibly screwed this up on purpose to underhandedly make the female candidate look better in the sense that Hillary didn’t receive the cheap shot “he’s my friend” endorsement like a high school student government campaign. But that would require Oprah to be a better actress than I thought she was, and I don’t like giving her compliments when I don’t absolutely have to. So I’ll just stand by the fact that she just slipped up something awful in less than 2 minutes. Sorry Barack, but with your former drug use, an Islamic school on your education record, and the powerhouse of womanhood screwing up an important endorsement? I don’t think you’re winning anything this time around.
