The infallible list of classic albums.

The infallible list of classic albums.

One thing I noticed on the internet is that the word classic gets throw alot. According to most people damn near every album that is likeable is a classic. I've heard everything from get rich or die trying, to all eyez on me. I even heard one dude say that young jeezy has two classics. I'll tell you one thing if I wake up one day and Young Jeezy has to classic albums, I'll jump out the fucking window of a 12 story building, and poke my poke my eyes out on the way down.

If you leave it up to most people there are over 100 classic albums, if there really were that many classics I wouldn't have a job right now. So I made it my personal duty to create the diffinitive list of classic albums in this post. I would like to say ahead of time, that these are not just albums that I like. I took alot of time and really thought about which albums deserve to be labeled classics. I think most people think a classic album is just an album that you can listen to all the way through, not true I can listen to the massacre all the way through and that album sure as hell isn't a classic.

To start off I first want to give a definition of the word classic.

   1. of the first or highest quality, class, or rank: a classic piece of work. serving as a standard, model, or guide of enduring interest, quality, or style. Keep that in mind as I go on, granted I'm sure that this definition was pertaining to architecture or some shit, it can still be applied to Hip Hop.

Also I broke the criteria down into 3 basic catergories. Impact: How much of an impact the album made to Hip Hop then and now. Influence: Are people still following the guidelines of this album. Test of time: Probably the most important, If its still not good after all these year then its not classic.

Eric B. and Rakim-Paid in full.

Eric B. and Rakim-Dont sweat the technique

Nas- Illmatic

Jay-z- Reasonable Doubt: This album vividly painted the picture of a hustler, from such and honest perspective. Every up and coming rapper from New York will be attempting to recreate this album for years to come.

Jay-z- The blueprint: The production was flawless, this was jay-z at his peak. The production on this album completely changed the game.

Notorious B.I.G.- Ready to Die

Notorious B.I.G.- Life After Death: I had to think pretty hard about putting this one on. There are a few soft spots on this album, but the classics far outweight the slight missteps. Lyrically its incredible, great production, many timeless songs. You cant deny this album.

A Tribe Called Quest- The low end theory.

A Tribe Called Quest- Midnight Mauraders.

Dr Dre- The Chronic.

Common Sense- Ressurection: Never was there a lyricist outside of New York that was this agile. Lyrically this album is not to be fucked with, plus it has one of the greatest song of all times "I used to love H.E.R."

Talib Kweli and Hi Tek-Reflection Eternal: This is the most beautiful Hip Hop album ever created. The production, the lyrics, incredible all the way through. there will never be another album this fluid.

 Outkast-Southernplayalisticcadilacmuzik.

Outkast-Aquemini

Mf Doom and Madlib-Madvillany: Man this album is so ahead of its time. I think some of you young guys are just not going to get this. This is what a modern day Hip Hop album should be, creative, groundbreaking and original.

 N.W.A- Straight Outta Compton.

U.G.K.- Riding Dirty: The blueprint to trap rap (sorry T.I.)

B.D.P.- Criminal Minded.

EPMD- Strictly Buisness.

Wu-Tang- Enter the 36 chambers.

Raekwon- Only built for cuban linx.

Gza/Genius- This album is often overlooked, It kind of in the shadows of cuban linx but i think its superior. The theme, the production, Gza's lyrics classic.

Gangstar- Daily Operations.

Gangstar- Step in the arena.

 Scarface- The Diary.

Scarface- Last of a Dying Breed: Many people hail the fix as face's best album, but i think this is superior. This is scarface at his peak, the fix was more of face being reflective. Granted the production on the fix is better but the stories on this album are far better.

Pete Rock and CL Smooth- Mecca And The Soul Brother.

Black Mood- Enta Da Stage: Another album that gets overlooked, this was the blueprint to grimey New York Hip Hop. If someone wants to know what its like to be a grimey kid in the inner city, I would just give them this album and the infamous.

 Mobb Deep- The Infamous.

Ice Cube- Amerikkkas Most Wanted.

Ice Cube- The predator.

Public Enemy- It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back.

The D.O.C. No one can do it better.

Slick Rick- The Great Adventures of Slick.

Eminem- The Marshal Mathers LP.

De La Soul- 3 feet high and rising

De La Soul- De la Soul is dead.

Bone Thugs and Harmony-E1999 Eternal

Albums that just missed the cut:

Outkast- Atlien: it was great but just wasnt groundbreaking enough to make the cut.

Scarface- The fix: As i said before I just feel like this album had great production, but didn't quite have that playabiltiy that LOADB has. Any 2pac album: Sorry guys but he just didn't have it in him.

Dr Dre-2001: Alot of this didn't age very well, there's a good 2-3 songs on there that are just not good anymore.

Nas- It Was Written: The production toward the end grew stale, there is 2 songs on the end that sound almost the same.

Snoop Doggy Dogg- Doggystyle: This album came down a few notches over the years, the production is kinda similar, (the shiznit and pump pump are damn near the same beat) plus the constant "deez nuts" jokes just dont seem as funny as they did when I was 13.

 The Game- The Documentary: HA!

Kanye West- Late Registration: Great album, production was groundbreaking. One thing that hurts Mr West is all the damn skits he has on the album, Totally kills the playability.

Lupe Fiasco- Food and Liquor: I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this, I'm going to wait 2 years before I label this one classic.

 Ice Cube- Lethal Injections.

Public Enemy- Fear of a Black Planet.

Gangstar- Hard to Earn.

 Brand Nubian- All for One.

Mos Def- Black on Both Sides: Some of the "R-n-B" songs hurt it.

 N.W.A.-Niggaz4life.

Juvenile-400 degreez.

Kool G. Rap and DJ Polo- Road to Riches.

Big Daddy Kane- Long Live The Kane.

Big Daddy Kane- Its a Big Daddy Thing.

EL-P-I'll Sleep When Your Dead- wanted to add this one, granted it just came out this year but this shit is far to groundbreaking to overlook. The production takes Hip Hop to the next level, the lyrics are nothing short of incredible. If you don't have this please pick it up.

Why isn't the south more competitive???

The south just doesn’t try hard enough.

One thing I never understood about the south is how the hell can someone like T.I. run around calling himself the king for the last 5 years, and no one has yet to go at his head. I could understand it if he just started calling himself the king now, but he has been saying that since his first album. How can people like scar face, Outkast, Bun-B, Ludacris,  or even people like Goodie mob, juvenile, and trick daddy would be better candidates than tip. T.I calling himself the king of the south is like mc Shan calling himself the king of the juice crew, xzibit calling himself the king of the west coast, or stephon marbury calling himself the best point guard in the NBA (hey wait).

So why does T.I. get to walk around with a crown untouched. Because the south just doesn’t give a shit, no one in the south is driven to be the best therefore T.I. has no competion at all. On” I’m a king”  Lil Scrappy jumps on the track and says he’s the prince, he might as well just said “I’m not as good as T.I” who the fuck brags about being number 2. I read an old Bun-B interview where he said when scarface released the  diary album came out he knew he could never be number one at best he could only be number 2, WHAT THE FUCK your not even going to fucking try? What if Lebron James just said oh Steve Nash is the leading M.V.P. candidate so ill just I’m just not going to try to win it?  And the worst shit ever was when T.I. had that conversation with T.I. and he said “I don’t want to be king you do it” wow that shit hurt my heart man, Scarface fell 2 spots on my top 10 list after I heard that. So not only does the south not care enough to work to be the best but they don’t even care enough to carry the shit that was given to them.

And that’s why the south is fucking up Hip Hop they have no honor, there not looking to move the culture to new heights there just trying to get money. There perfectly happy with themselves as long as they have a chain that’s the same color as fruity pebbles and a car that’s the same color as cheese cake. They don’t give a shit about creating classic music that lives on forever, they just want to make something that jams in the strip club. Rappers in the south have no drive, no motivation once they get money the sit back and relax that’s why T.I. made the same album two times in a row and no one even noticed the shit, that’s why Lil Wayne has been spitting the same 16 for the past 3 year, and that’s why Young Jeezy repackaged thug motivation and gave it a new title cause no one gives a shit, no one in the south is even critical enough to see this shit. All the south cares about is that these artists are “getting that money”, and how often there songs jam in the strip club.

The bottom line is, if you’re not in this to be the best than stay the fuck home. If you don’t want to be the best then why even bother doing it. Why bother doing anything if you’re not going to attempt to be the best, we have enough mediocre music in Hip Hop we don’t need a whole region full of the shit.

2Pac is the most overatted rapper of all time.

I’ve noticed that whenever you have a debate on tupac its always full of terms like “passion”  “influence” or “message” which I find to be bullshit every artist has all of the above why do people make it seem like Pac is the only rapper to ever have a message also in most of these debates u never hear anyone ever use his music as the argument or even his albums, why do u ask because that wouldn’t make for a good argument.

I never understood how people could claim Pac as the best mc ever, when in fact Pac is the most overrated figure in music history. I know all of Pac’s loyal “soldiers” are going to try and crucify me for this but hear me out first.

Lyrically Pac is not even top 25 maybe even 30, and the man never even made a classic album, fuck it I said it he never made a classic me against the world is his closet but 30 % of the album didn’t age very well, makaveli is probably the most overrated album ever the joint is was one wack song away from being weak. All eyez on me is a damn mess and his early albums or not even worth mentioning. Don’t get me wrong I mean I like Pac, just about as  much as a I like pepperoni pizza(its cool but not every damn day) I most  of his albums and some of his DVD’s so don’t think I’m not being a “hater” I just don’t understand why everyone praises this man so much.

For some strange reason Pac seems to get away with the same things we criticize other artist for. Most people criticize 50 cent for talking about get shot, but Pac talked about getting shot way more than 50 has done but no one ever brings that up. Also people love to accuse 50 of being a snitch with pretty much no basis to the argument yet Pac blatantly snitches on jimmy henchman and Haitian jack on against all odds. People accuse jayz and others for having repetitive content yet Pac talked about the same old shit “my enemies this, I’m an outlaw that” all the damn time dude repeated himself more than Mike Jones.

But the main Pac argument was his influence yeah ill admit Pac is the most influential rapper of all times bar none but that doesn’t necessarily make that a good thing, his influence on rap was about the same as a drug dealers influence on the youth in the community, what good artist has come out of Pac's influence? JA rule? Lil scrappy? Master p and c-murder? No there just all lame copy. On top of that it really wasn’t even his true image, Pac went to the school of performing arts  was very articulate he  said him self that he was never a drug dealer (yet he talked about it) in many of the DVD’s his old friends said he wasn’t a good fighter and always got beat up, shock g said that when he met Pac he was very quite and reserved, so where did this whole thug life, middle fingers up fuck the world shit come from it was all a fucking act they should give Pac an award for this shit the man was acting his whole god damn career that’s fucking genius. But then he goes and makes his best career move he dies, then and only then did Pac become the #1 rapper I never heard anyone say that Pac was the best before he died hell I hardly ever heard anyone talk about Pac outside of the court cases and the drama.

In closing Pac was not the best rapper of all times, he was not a revolutionary or a hero to black people he was nothing more than a shirtless thug rapper who created a great character to hide behind. I challenge anyone to make a good argument as to why Pac deserves the praise he gets in Hip Hop without mentioning his influence or his imagine.
