A while back while I was still in NYC, I decided to go to South Side Jamaica Queens in search of 50's neighborhood. Since, I've been in the studio with G.O.O.D. Music and felt the energy over there, I wanted to do the same with G-Unit. The only way I knew how, was going straight to the streets. Shout out to all the good people in Queens. It was cool anyway... seeing the neighborhood of one of the biggest rappers (out).
While I was there, I also decided to stop through a barbeque, thrown by the Fuertado brothers, Lance and Todd. If you don't know, these two brothers were known in the 80's and 90's as huge kingpins in the underground drug world. They've now shifted their lives and became people who give back to the hood. For more info on them go to : http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=89462490 . A lot of cool people, kids and families came together. That's cool. I wish people could throw stuff like that prior to selling drugs and getting locked up <<< a little food for thought. IT'S LIKE "LET'S SELL CRACK TO THE PARENTS AND 5 years later, FEED THE KIDS TURKEY'S ON THANKSGIVING." Anyway, the barbeque was good and it wasn't a shock that nobody wanted to talk about Curtis.
Come to discover they don't have such a great history with Curtis. It's all good, moving right along. I also stopped through historical Hip Hop spots like the spot Wu-tang shot "Ice Cream," and dope cd shops. I also ran across Shea Davis from Smack DVD and Bonds. Isaiah Stokes was also around, promoting his album sponsored by Moet Hennessy. The people from Don Diva were also in the place to be.
THE PONIT IS THIS: Nobody wanted to talk about 50, who was over 30. Young people were feeling him, but they were'nt feeling the fact that I wanted to know about their neighborhood spokesperson. Word of mouth, they want him to give back to the hood.
SHOUT OUT TO QUEENS AND 50 CENT. stay focused, fresh and free! REMEMBER EVERY HOODS THE SAME.
