Since Hip Hop has become a global culture, it's important for people to understand the importance of addressing global issues, through their musical presentation. A lot of the times, emcees/designers from America collaborate with people from Europe or even Asia, looking right pass Africa. I think it's important for Black and Brown people to make sure that the "unheard" voice is being presented through this powerful culture. Let's not forget aboutt Africa people!
I wanted to display something stemming straight out of the streets, by introducing a Milwaukee, WI emcee by the name of Fidel. He's huge in the Mid-West and is a portion of the group, "Taste Emcees." Although they have a concrete following out of Milwaukee,WI and Chicago, IL they also have affiliates in the Bay (as well as other areas throughout the country). I thought that it was cool that Fidel and the good people over at Mo' Fire (in Cape Town) got together via e-mail and through text and came up with six joints and a video called, "War Drum." Mo'Fire is based out of Africa and Fidel is in Wisconsin. Confused? Well Fidel mentioned that this sort of an experience is considered to be, "Revolutionary Broadcasting."
It's dope, as well as amazing because w/o a budget and the influence of a major label, they've somehow executed the idea of "Intercontinental Hip Hop." Here's Fidel message to the people, "We work to organize and get our communities active in creating constructive change through Hip Hop, through youth advocacy and through education in everyday life...hopefully this video can inspire people from all walks of life to remember how powerful Hip Hop can be and influence some of the big name artists to reconnect the audience to Africa."
With a huge fan base in Africa and in the United States Fidel proclaims, "Marcus Garvey would be proud."
Here's the video, "War Drums."
Taken from his myspace page: "Fidel has become one of the most exciting merchants of medicine music to emerge in years.
